For cats specifically, the following tips may help:
• Place food and fresh water at the base of the tree
• Put food out between 10pm and 2am when it’s quieter, and the cat may feel safer coming down
• Remove the cause of fear, such as keeping dogs indoors and limiting loud activity nearby
• Clear the area around the base so the cat has a safe landing
For peace of mind, cats are very resilient and have been known to stay up in trees upwards of weeks. That being said, a timely rescue is always recommended.
Please do not attempt to climb the tree yourself. Tree climbing can be extremely dangerous without the proper equipment, training, and experience.
